Poland China
Origin: Ohio, USA. Despite the name, it has no connection to Poland or China - the breed was developed in America.
Colour / Look: Black body with six white points: nose, feet (all four), and tail tip. Drooping ears.
Body Weight: Adult boar: 280-360 kg. Adult sow: 230-300 kg.
Purpose: Meat and lard (fat) production. One of the largest pig breeds.
Key Features: Very large body size. Produces both meat and fat. Calm temperament - easy to handle. Good feed efficiency. Used in cross-breeding programmes.
ICAR Guidance: Poland China is one of the recognised exotic breeds in ICAR documentation. Its large size and dual (meat+fat) purpose makes it useful for farmers who use pig fat for cooking or soap-making.
